This epic is for misc. enhancements to the custom query API.
There are currently some limitations on custom queries that we would like to resolve:
Currently the custom queries only support queries that result in a list of Vertexes. The formatters then generates a resulting json representation for each vertex. We should be able to support queries resulting in a path or a tree.
Currently the query part of the payload cannot support optional query parameters (i.e. they must always have a type parameter if the query requires it)
Additional enhancements:
Currently queries have a timeout on the query step only, not the actual marshaling/formatting step on the output which can take much longer
