Srini and Mike (with the presentation of Container Networking and Security ONAPARC-255)  Srini presented his slides first describing the the motivation of ISTIO as well as the challenged.   It proposes that instead of having a sidecar, it proposes a side processes in the same container containing Envoy (reduce overeah from hundres of megabyes to a few megabytes).

Mike presented his slides covering K8 capabilities and container networking

There is a proposal for dublin:

• use OOM/K8s in general, use ISTIO where it is missing functionality.
• Keep applications indepenat of service mesh infrastructure as a principle

There was a question on distributed tracing.  the response was that ISTIO doesn't do that by itself.

There was appreciation for the approach and a request to the community to see if we could take this as a working assumption, however there is an action to take the security parts through the security sub-committee.
