      Fine graned placement service (F-GPS).

The Edge Use case group has been looking at that EDGE placement rules to consider check of capacity & capabilities of cloud regions and determing the VNF placement.  It leverages Valet.

      Gueyoung presented the wiki link.

      • A submodule in OOF/HAS.
      • Fine grained placement is that cloud region has multiple availabiity zones, and the idea is to make the placement decision into the availability zone inside the cloud region
      • The challenge is the affinity and anti-affinity.
      • The linked wiki also describes the impacts on ONAP components.
      • It can be considered an extention of OOF/HAS.  The discussion was that this is not extending the platform placement capabilities OOF, but creating new policies for creating the rules for the placement decision.
      • The decision process is.
        • Select the cloud region
        • Then work with the placement of the availability zone.
      •  There was a question whether ONAP needs to know which availabiilty zone this is, vs knowing there is capacity in the availability zones.
      • The answer was that the availability zones could represent physical data centers, hence driving the need for ONAP to select the availability zone.
      • There were questions from a service creation perspective and how a service designer would see this.
      • Clarification was that this was to check that there was sufficient capacity in the availabilty zone as well as selecting the availabity zone for the VMs
      • ONAP doesn't manage the VM capacity, it just checks its.
      • A&AI need to know what availables zones are there.  The exact available can be quiried.
      • (i.e. AAI needs to keep the list of available zones in the cloud region).
        • Then the question was raised about 3PP cloud.  The answer was that the available zones may be exposed from 3rd party clouds, but not necessary detailed capacity information
      • Azure works with intent - i.e. not to try to select avaibility zones
      • Request to come back in a deep dive and also including modelling of the placement etc.
      • Looks like its OK.
