Specifically, I see no way to receive an error code when a message is sent, such as if the VES is down. 

I need to be able to know that my messages are not reaching the VES in this case, from the code, so that I can wait for it to be up to proceed through events and alarms.

Please let me know if there is already a way to this. Otherwise, I can make the modifications myself and submit them for approval.
